Land Trusts are non-profit, non-governmental conservation organizations that actively
work to protect natural resources through partnerships with private and public landowners. Together,
land trusts in Wisconsin have permanently protected over 200,000 acres of open space, wildlife habitat,
native natural communities, lake, river and stream watersheds and other special natural resources.
Wisconsin’s land trusts operate in communities around the state. Their service areas range from a single watershed to a full county to multiple counties. Some, like The Nature Conservancy, work in specific project areas in different parts of the state.
In order to find the land trust or trusts working in your area, begin by clicking on a county on the map. This will generate a list of land trusts operating in that county, with the service area of each indicated on an accompanying map.
If the county you select does not list any land trusts, please contact Gathering Waters Conservancy for more information, or select the "Statewide" button on the main map page. This will link you to those organizations working in various locales around the state; you can check here to see if any of those groups have projects in your region.
For more information about options for conserving your land, please contact Gathering Waters Conservancy or a local land trust. Gathering Waters Conservancy is a state-wide coalition of Wisconsin’s land trusts, offering services to both land trusts and landowners to facilitate the protection of land and water resources.
